Artur Beterbiev (RUS, # 2 Sportspedia) had not fought for more than a year but returned showing his usual intelligence and forceful skills, defeating Adam Deines (DEU) to successfully defend his World Linear Championship from the World Boxing Council and the International Boxing Federation, in the Light-Heavyweight Division.
Deines, who came in with a 19-1-1 record and also hadn’t fought since 2019, came in as a substitute for the fight and was not a favorite but put up a good fight, sometimes connecting well to the body and perhaps taking a round or two.
Beterbiev dropped Deines in the first round and then in the deciding 10th, when the two exchanged blows. The German challenger’s corner decided to throw in the towel during the count.
Beterbiev is one of three Russians who are perhaps the best in the division, alongside Dmitry Bivol and Sergey Kovalev. Considering that the fight was in Moscow, could there be another fight in Russia, now between a couple of them?
