Khabib Nurmagomedov (RUS) announced his retirement from the Octagon after his last fight against Justin Gaethje (USA) but was still considered the UFC Lightweight World Champion.
Yesterday the UFC officially announced that it considers Khabib as retired and today for the first time the title appears vacant.
Khabib -who appears at number 44 on the Sportspedia 100 list of the best athletes for 2020- retires with an undefeated record of 29-0 in Mixed Martial Arts. He was also a World Sambo Champion.
Now the UFC is working on a starting match between Michael Chandler (USA, 22-5) and Charles Oliveira (BRA, 30-8), for the vacant lightweight title.
