Nîmes, who until a couple of weeks ago was last place in Ligue 1, surprised the other Olympique, the Marseillaise, after defeating them 1-2.
Marseille were not in the best state of mind after losing the French Trophy of Champions last Wednesday against Paris Saint-Germain. Nîmes came from losing 0-1 against Lille, in a match where they gave a very good game to one of the best Ligue 1 teams.
The goals happened in the second half. They were two consecutive by Niclas Eliasson (SWE), who scored at 55′ and 58′.
Marseille tried but could not score until 85′, when Cubas (PRY) erred in a clear and gave it to his former Boca teammate, Darío Benedetto (ARG), who put it in for the 1-2.
With this result Nîmes is not 18th and out of the Direct relegation, while Marseille is nos 6th with two pending matches.
