Team New Zealand will continue to carry the Auld Mug after defeating Italy 7-3 and securing the victory in the America’s Cup.
With multiple world champions Peter Burling (NZL) and Blair Tuke (NZL), the home team had a round Cup. At some point the score was 3-3 but after that the locals took advantage.
Italy really did not have major errors in the last race but the Champions were simply better and halfway through they were already taking a lead of almost half a kilometer.
With the Prime Minister watching from television and literally with much of the population of the country going to the Cup events at some point, the atmosphere for the Champions was festive.
This is New Zealand’s fourth victory in this prestigious Sailing Cup, and the second in a row.
