Red Bull F1 driver Max Verstappen (NED) is active in the “off-season” by competing in simulator races. Today he competed on the first race of the BMW SIM GT Cup and finished second.
Verstappen led at the start for nearly half an hour at the Daytona Road Course and was pressed by Joshua Rogers (AUS) at first but kept his lead.
Eventually he was passed by his Team Redline teammate Mitchell DeJong (USA), who also posted the fastest lap.
Gianni Vecchio (DEU), with whom Verstappen has battled before, respected him. Verstappen gave the car to fellow professional driver Daniel Juncadella (ESP), and they finished first after pit stops, in which some drivers made mistakes.
Jonas Wallmaier (DEU), DeJong’s teammate, passed Juncadella with just over 4 minutes to go and they had a great battle in the latter part of the race.
The two Redline cars crossed the finish line side by side in favor of the blue team of Wallmaier and DeJong, who secured the pass to the “Live Final” in Munich, in a few months.
