The Sportspedia

Second Day of Finals for the Wrestling Individual World Cup, which is replacing the World Championship. Russia had a wrestler on every single final day although they did not take very gold. Notably Sharshenbeko (KGZ) pulled the upset against Maryanyan (RUS). Evloev (RUS) remains dominant in the 97 kilogram divison.

We recap today’s finals.

60 kg. Greco-Roman

GOLD: Zholaman SHARSHENBEKOV (KGZ) df. Stepan MARYANYAN (RUS) by VPO1, 4-4

BRONZE: Maksim KAZHARSKI (BLR) df. Ahmet UYAR (TUR) by VPO1, 3-3

Maryanyan, former World Champion (2018), was the favorite on paper to give Russia yet another gold, the first one today. He rolled Sharshenbeko two times for the 3-0 but the Kyrgyz defended well on the floor. AN entertaining combat where Sharshenbeko also had good attempts and threw Maryanyan down for a point. A big moment was when he picked the Russian up with a jolt and put him down for two points and a 4-4, where he would be taking gold. And he did! Gold for Kyrgyzstan! Big win!

A contest between two Olympic medal candidates if the division existed. Torba had an early point advantage and Lokyaev equalized.
